Transderm Scop

Transderm scop patch

Transderm Scop is an anticholinergic medicine. Anticholinergics have many effects in the body. For example, they decrease the secretion of fluids, slow the stomach and intestine, and dilate the pupils. Transderm Scop is used to relieve nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. Transderm Scop may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

How Taken:
Use Transderm Scop exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Transderm Scop comes as a patch to be placed on the skin behind your ear. Apply one patch to a clean, dry, hairless area behind the ear. The patch should be applied at least 4 hours before its effects will be needed. Each patch is good for 3 days. At the end of 3 days or when the Transderm Scop patch is no longer needed, remove the patch and throw it away. Wrap the patch in tissue or paper to avoid exposing anyone else to the remaining medication. If a new patch needs to be applied, place a fresh patch on the hairless area behind your other ear. Wash your hands and the area behind your ear thoroughly to remove any traces of Transderm Scop from the area.

Warnings Precautions:
Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, an enlarged prostate, difficulty urinating, bladder problems, or glaucoma before using this medication. It is not known whether Transderm Scop will harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant do not use Transderm Scop without first talking to your doctor. Do not use Transderm Scop without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. It is not known whether Transderm Scop passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose:
Never take a double dose of Transderm Scop. Remove the old patch as soon as you remember and apply a new patch to the same area behind the other ear. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose altogether.

Side Effects:
Continue to use Transderm Scop and talk to your doctor if you experience drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; restlessness, excitation, nervousness, or insomnia; blurred vision; dizziness; decreased appetite, nausea, or vomiting; difficulty urinating; or an irregular or fast heartbeat. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, and poor coordination have been reported when treatment lasting more than 3 days is discontinued. If you use Transderm Scop for more than 3 days, be aware that these side effects may occur when you stop. Stop using Transderm Scop and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur.

Storage:
Should be stored at controlled room temperature.

Overdose:
Symptoms of a Transderm Scop overdose include drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, excitability, seizures or convulsions, hallucinations, and death. Seek emergency medical attention.

More Information:
Transderm Scop is not recommended for children use. Children are much more sensitive to the side effects of scopolamine. Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are using Transderm Scop. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Transderm Scop may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. If you experience dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision avoid these activities.
