Nasonex

Nasonex nasal spray prevents and relieves the runny, stuffy nose that accompanies hay fever and year-round allergies. It contains a steroid medication that fights inflammation. Also Nasonex is a nasal allergy spray for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergy symptoms.

How Taken:
Take Nasonex regularly at the same time each day. Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use. Before the first use, prime the pump by pressing it repeatedly until a fine mist appears. If more than a week passes between uses, you'll need to prime the pump again. Avoid spraying the mist into your eyes. If the drug is used for seasonal allergy, therapy is best started 2-4 weeks before the season. Improvement in symptoms occurs generally within 2 days and full benefit occurs after 1-2 weeks of use. Do not use more than the prescribed amount, and do not take it more than once a day.

Warnings Precautions:
Tell your doctor before using Nasonex if you have a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection of any kind. If your allergy symptoms fail to improve--or get worse--while you are using Nasonex, inform your doctor. Nasonex is not approved for children use younger than 3 years of age. If you have an infection you may not be able to use Nasonex. Tell your doctor before using Nasonex, if you have a nasal septum ulcer, recently had nasal surgery, or nasal damage. During your treatment you may not be able to use Nasonex, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring. It is not known whether Nasonex will harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor. It is unknown whether Nasonex passes into breast milk. Do not use Nasonex without first talking to your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby. If you notice any changes in your vision, report them to your doctor.

Missed Dose:
Take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

Side Effects:
Very unlikely but report promptly: vision changes, unusual nasal bleeding or irritation/pain, blood-tinged mucus/phlegm, unusual increase in thirst or urination, nausea, weakness, weight loss. You can have during your treatment headache or sore throat. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Nasonex, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Nasonex.

Storage:
When Nasonex Nasal Spray, 50 mcg is removed from its cardboard container, prolonged exposure of the product to direct light should be avoided. Brief exposure to light, as with normal use, is acceptable. Store at room temperature away from direct light.

Overdose:
A single overdose of Nasonex is unlikely to cause any harm. However, habitual overuse of the product can cause symptoms of steroid overload, including menstrual irregularities, acne, obesity, and muscle weakness. Check with your doctor immediately if you develop such symptoms.

More Information:
Your immune system may not be strong enough to fight off an infection while you are using Nasonex. Avoid items or activities that you know are allergens for you if they make your symptoms worse. Stay away from people with chicken pox, measles, or any other type of infectious disease. Clean areas where dust or pet fur may aggravate your condition. Avoid exposing yourself to known sources of infection.
